Our Lady of Peace Table Tennis Club

Introduction & Information
A very warm welcome to Our Lady of Peace Table Tennis Club (OLOP). We were formed in 1980 to provide facilities for youngsters and adults of all age groups and abilities to practice and play the sport. In 2008 we became an English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) PremierClub.

Our aim is to serve the community by providing competitive table tennis for all by encouraging and developing players regardless of age, faith, ability or gender in a friendly, family environment. We have disabled access, car parking and facilities for spectators.

For the more serious player, we provide excellent coaching and an opportunity to play in one of our 13 local league teams. At the top end, we compete at the very highest level with 3 teams in the Senior British League.

So whether you just want a fun way of socialising on a Sunday afternoon or have ambition and talent to compete at the highest level of the sport, OLOP is the club for you.

Facilities at the club are excellent and include superb playing conditions, six fold away Butterfly tables, a rest area and kitchen. There is also a social club on site, complete with lounge bar, but you need to be a member of the social club to use these facilities – you will find further details of how to join elsewhere on this website.
The club took possession of a state of the art robot in 2008, which has greatly assisted in training sessions, providing challenges for both beginners and advanced players alike.

Roll of Honour
OLOP teams have always been highly successful in winning league titles, cups and individual competitions and honours. Last season OLOP E won the Reading & District Table Tennis Association (RDTTA) Division 2 league title and the Team Handicap Cup and Neil Cartwright won both the Reading Closed Singles and the Reading Masters titles.

In the RDTTA Youth League, a team of four OLOP players (The Impact Thunderbolts) won the league title. This season, young Liam McTiernan has already won the RDTTA Individual Handicap Cup.

A full Club Roll of Honour will follow soon.

School Links
OLOP have close links with a number of local schools, most notably Maiden Erlegh Secondary School in Earley and St Dominic Savio Roman Catholic Primary School in Woodley, where coaching sessions are regularly run by Alan Dines, assisted by Liam McTiernan and Michael Childs.

Both schools competed in this season’s English Schools Table Tennis Association (ESTTA) National Team Championships, with St Dominic’s reaching the Regional Finals.

A Sport for All
Table tennis is one of the most popular indoor sports in the world and with equipment being relatively inexpensive to start (OLOP will happily loan bats and balls to beginners), we are sure you will find it an exhilarating experience.

It is truly a sport for all ages, all abilities all your life so why not take it up now, particularly with the inspiration of the Olympic Games coming to Britain in 2012, bringing the world’s top players to our shores.
