The solemnity of Apostles Peter and Paul

The solemnity of Apostles Peter and Paul is a celebration of the Church’s sacred roots. Both saints together formed the foundation of the “one, holy, Catholic, Apostolic”.
The profession of faith: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” comes from Peter – from the humble fisherman of Galilee. It is not the product of education, wisdom, reason, but a revelation of the Father. Peter by God’s decision is so close to the Lord that he himself becomes a rock of faith and love on which Jesus built his Church: “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be lost in heaven.”
St. Paul’s commitment to spreading the Gospel and sharing the Truth with the Gentiles brought him to special closeness to Peter, till the point that the Church is present in the world to proclaim and bear witness of Christ.
O God, who on the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul give us the noble and holy joy of this day, grant, we pray, that your Church may in all things follow the teaching of those through whom she received the beginnings of right religion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

As we are being urged let us also turn in prayer to the Virgin Mary, Queen of the Apostles, who guides and supports the people of God on their journey.
